SBVC does not provide evaluation of academic credits from colleges or universities outside of the United States. There are many foreign transcript evaluation agencies that provide this kind of service for a fee. In order to apply credits earned in colleges or universities outside of the United States to programs offered by SBVC, students must provide the college with a detailed evaluation report from an approved agency. On the evaluation report, course information must include grades for the courses and the levels of the courses ("Upper" division or "Lower" division). Credits approved by SBVC are applicable only to the SBVC degrees and certificates.

Students should be advised that college-level English courses taught at a non-US institution may or may not be considered equivalent to the college-level English courses offered by SBVC. Mathematics courses that are not clearly defined as statistics or calculus, etc., may require further course evaluation.  All students will be required to take the Guided Self Placement upon admission to the college, prior to registration for college courses. The placement assesses students' English, Reading/comprehension, and Mathematics skills to recommend them for math, English, and possibly Reading courses. The placement will also recommend students to take the required support courses if needed. If students are planning to transfer to another institution after completing some coursework at SBVC, their foreign transcripts will be re-evaluated by the institution they transfer to.
