With over twenty years of diverse experience, Laura has worked extensively in college health, public health (focusing on communicable diseases and STI/HIV), and in private medical offices including family practice, OB/GYN, and reproductive & sexual health.

At the college health center, Laura performs routine and specialized nursing care, including health screenings, prevention, assessment, treatment, and health education. Students can expect comprehensive support in managing their health and wellness needs.

Laura utilizes a holistic approach to nursing care, which embraces the whole person and promotes preventative care, self-care, and cultural diversity. Her philosophy is centered on treating individuals with respect and addressing their overall well-being.

Embarking on the journey of therapy can feel like stepping into the unknown. It’s natural to feel uneasy or apprehensive about opening up to a new person. My goal is to create a warm and inviting space where you can feel comfortable exploring and understanding your thoughts and feelings. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and mutual respect. I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs, ensuring that you feel seen, heard, and understood throughout our work together.

With over eight years of experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I have worked in diverse settings including higher education, short-term residential therapeutic programs, and nonprofits. I have supported individuals (ages 8+) and couples from various cultural backgrounds, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, transition, identity development, mindfulness, grief and loss, LGBTQ+ concerns, complex trauma, and spirituality. My integrative approach combines a range of evidence-based practices to help you achieve your goals.

One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is the importance of the client-therapist relationship. Positive change is often rooted in a foundation of trust, safety, and support. If you’ve had a previous therapy experience that didn’t feel right, remember: “Don’t give up on therapy, give up on the therapist.” This insight has profoundly shaped my approach and underscores the importance of finding a good fit between client and therapist.

What I love most about my work is the privilege of being invited into my clients’ worlds and witnessing their genuine selves. It’s a true gift to share in their journeys and growth.

I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT# 136704). I am registered with the California State Board of Behavioral Sciences. I am also a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.

Hi, my name is Jessica Munoz I serve as the Administrative Clerk at Student Health Services where I have been a dedicated member of the team for over 8 years. I hold an A.A. in Liberal Arts from SBVC (2014) and a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis on Social Services from California State University, San Bernardino (2016).

My journey with SBVC began as a student worker in the Counseling department, a role that sparked my commitment to the SBVC community. Following graduation from SBVC, I transitioned into a permanent employee at Student Health Services in 2016, where I have been providing essential support to students and staff ever since.

Martha’s approach to therapy is collaborative and non-judgmental. She values creating a calming, supportive, and culturally sensitive environment. Martha strives for her work with clients to be meaningful and collaborative, fostering genuine connection and self-discovery. She works with clients to empower them, ease their struggles, and help them find new grounding, hope, and healing.

Martha enjoys working with clients through various challenges, including shame, grief, and depression. She is particularly passionate about supporting individuals navigating life transitions and has extensive experience working with BIPOC and LGBTQ populations. With a background in schools and private practice, Martha has provided individual, couples, and group therapy, adapting her approach to meet the diverse needs of her clients.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Martha earned her Master of Science in Counseling and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies from California State University, San Bernardino. She is a member of the California Association for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (CALPCC). Martha provides individual and group counseling at Student Health Services on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during office hours.

In her free time, Martha enjoys reading and spending quality time with her loved ones. These activities provide her with balance and inspiration, enriching both her personal life and professional work.

Hey everyone, my name is Ulises Velasco (he/him/his), and I am a mental health counselor here at SBVC. Currently I possess a Masters of Science in Clinical/Counseling psychology and am recognized by the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (No. 147845). I’ve been working since I was 17 years-old, have been working as a health service provider for about 5 years, and have been working as a mental health service provider for 2 years.  My roles at SHS are primarily focused on providing therapy services! This includes individual, couple, family and group therapy services. Additionally, I will either host/cofacilitate the SHS’s weekly tent events that highlight a particular mental health/lifestyle topic. Otherwise, you might find me on campus during any one of our outreach events as well. 

As a first-generation college student, I completed my undergraduate education locally in the Inland Empire by attending UC Riverside. During my time here, I majored in Psychology, minored in Japanese language, and spent roughly 3 years volunteering as a research assistant in the school’s social neuroscience lab. Throughout the course of my studies, I also worked part-time as a means to cover educational and personal expenses. 

My master’s education was completed locally as well by attending CSU San Bernardino. Here I spent about 1 year counseling individuals at the Community Counseling Center as my introduction as a mental health services provider. During my second year of this program, I then started my internship here at SBVC as a therapist trainee. Like most master’s programs, this was incredibly challenging but facilitated further growth and introspection that I would have never anticipated and wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. My particular interest within the field of therapy is working with marginalized and transitional-age youth (16-25 y/o) populations. The reason for this stems from my own experiences as a marginalized individual, friendships and relationships with others who may not share my identity yet also identify as marginalized, and because I believe that the 16-25 age range is a very crucial time for development as we start to come to terms with who we are, where we are at, and who we want to become. 

My approach to care is heavily influenced by evidence-based models of care, while also pulling from decolonial schools of thought. There are many different flavors with which one can provide their therapy services from, but I take inspiration from many of them. Some in particular would be, Interpersonal Therapy, Relational-Cultural Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Feminist Therapy. This might seem like a mouthful, but generally my approach aims to provide a safe space and emphasizes the importance of relationships, cultural context, and political factors in influencing mental health along with strategies to help manage our unwanted thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Fawn’s therapeutic approach prioritizes creating a safe and welcoming environment for clients. Fawn integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) to explore and address how clients process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Fawn guides clients in altering maladaptive thinking patterns with strategic evidence-based interventions. By understanding each client’s unique story and individual perception of the world, she strives to empower clients on their journey to better mental health.

Fawn began her internship at SBVC’s Student Health Services in 2022, transitioning to an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist role in 2023. Fawn’s professional experience includes working as a residential counselor at an all-boys group home, where she supported at-risk youth managing mental health challenges and juvenile delinquency. Fawn helped the residents with academics, emotional regulation, and daily stress management. Fawn also worked at Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services, where she guided formally incarcerated individuals with severe mental illnesses in their job search. She designed workshops to enhance job-readiness, manage anxiety, and improve communication skills.

Fawn earned her MS in Clinical Counseling from California State University, San Bernardino in 2023. She conducted research under Dr. Jacob Jones in clinical neuropsychology and co-authored two peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of Neuropsychiatry & Clinical Neuroscience and Mental Health & Physical Activity.

In her free time, Fawn enjoys playing in a rock band as singer/guitarist. She enjoys writing music, spending quality time with her five cats, and getting out in nature to ground herself in this seldom quiet world. Fawn absolutely loves laughing with friends, spending time with family in Ohio, and making all humans feel seen and heard.

Fawn’s future therapeutic goals include supporting individuals/couples dealing with relationship distress, intimacy issues, body image concerns, anxiety, and depression. Fawn aims to facilitate healing and growth, fostering a sense of empowerment and agency for each client. Fawn is the facilitator of the Her Story: Women’s Empowerment Group here at SHS each semester.
