How To Vote: Step by Step
To register, you need
- Your California driver's license or California identification card number,
- The last four digits of your social security number, and
- Your date of birth.
If you do not have a California driver's license or California identification card, you can still use this form to apply to register to vote. However, you will need to take additional steps to complete your voter registration.

- In California, you can choose a political party preference (Democrat, Republican, Green, Libertarian, etc.) or choose No Party. In the primary elections, your ballot will not have the presidential candidates on it unless you request one.
- Curious if you'd like to be a Democrat or Republican? Take the Pew Political Typology Quiz to find out which political group you match.
