It was a blast from the past as San Bernardino Valley College opened two time capsules from 1986.

This event was part of SBVC’s centennial celebration, with the capsules opened by library staff at Coffee with the Cabinet on September 30.

The capsules, which were originally wooden boxes used to store archery equipment, included items like protest signs, a sign for a carnival that may have been a precursor to WinterFest, material about the college's 60th anniversary, tiles from the old admissions and records building, and ceiling moulding from the former library building.

"They were beautiful buildings so I'm glad we got to preserve some of that history here," said Library Technical Assistant Tim Hosford.

Many items from the capsules will be displayed in the library. A committee is working on putting together a new time capsule in honor of the centennial.
