Dr. Contreras Presents at Networking Club
President Gilbert J. Contreras attended a meeting of the SBVC Networking Club on
February 4, sharing insights with students about the importance of forging connections
while staying true to their authentic selves.
The club meets weekly and gives members a place to learn social and professional networking. Contreras told the students that while he networks all the time and this strengthens him as a leader, "it isn't something that came naturally — I was shy."
A chance encounter might lead to opportunities, he said, like when two students who spoke at the President's Circle Luncheon in November received job offers from business representatives in attendance. He also praised the Den2Den Housing Pathway Program, a collaboration between SBVC and Cal State San Bernardino.
“That would have never happened if there wasn’t a connection between the chancellor and the president, and me and the chancellor and the president,” Contreras said. “Networking produces results as you get people in the same room."
