SBVC’s graduation celebrations kicked off in May with the 43rd Annual Black Grad Celebration. The event, hosted by SBCCD's Black Faculty & Staff Association, honored and celebrated Black graduates and their families. Students proudly took the stage to receive their kente stoles, surrounded by more than 200 guests in the SBVC Auditorium.

This year, guests were treated to a live performance by local band Higher Music Group. One of the event organizers and EOPS/CARE counselor, Keenan Giles, said the annual goal of the celebration is “to honor those students who identify with and relate to the plight of Black Students, that in spite of "statistics" have worked towards attainment and completion of their educational objectives and goals."
