A higher education ranking website named San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) as one of the top schools to pursue an associate degree in computer science in a virtual setting.

According to TheBestSchools.org, SBVC is in the top 20 of all institutions of higher education offering an associate degree in computer science. The program at SBVC covers a wide range of topics in the computer science realm, but emphasizes software engineering and information processing. Students can earn either an associate degree from SBVC’s program or a certificate. Typically the associate degree is a prerequisite for a bachelor’s degree in the same field at a four year university, although web developers can find entry-level work with an associate degree.

This is the second time SBVC has been ranking by an organization for its computer science program. In 2019, AffordableCollegesOnline.org considered data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and ranked SBVC in the top 50 for offering affordable quality education for one of best online software engineering programs in the nation.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that jobs in computer science and information technology will grow 11 percent through 2029. It is expected that the U.S. job market will add more than 500,000 jobs in this area, where the median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations is $88,240.

SVBC President Diana Rodriguez said she was incredibly proud of the program, and that the faculty who make up the program deserve the recognition.

“We have the best team of instructors in our computer science department,” Rodriguez said. “This designation by TheBestSchools.org is a worthy one -- we work hard to make this a great program to meet the demands of the job market.”

Enrollment for the spring 2021 semester is now open. For more information on SBVC’s computer science program, visit the college’s website here: www.valleycollege.edu/academic-career-programs/degrees-certificates/computer-science/
