SBVC made sure its students weren’t stressed this tax season. The campus hosted several free tax preparation events throughout February to take the filing burden off students. Volunteer tax professionals were on hand to prepare and electronically file Federal and State taxes and provide screenings to determine eligibility for the earned income tax credit. Event partners included Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), the San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department, and California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC). These organizations serve as outreach and education campaigns to spread awareness of the state and federal Earned Income Tax Credit and offer free help for filing taxes. CalEITC hosted a special Tacos & Taxes event to encourage students to take advantage of the free services, and eat some tasty tacos in doing so.  SBVC plans to continue these types of events through April to help its students claim their earned tax credit.
