Night Market History

Night markets trace their origins to Tang Dynasty China, where evening bazaars brought together food, business, and community after dark. Over centuries, the tradition spread across Southeast Asia and eventually the world — becoming a beloved gathering space where culture, cuisine, and connection thrive.

Right here in Southern California, the 626 Night Market has carried that torch since 2012, growing into one of the largest Asian night markets in the United States and a cherished institution for the region's Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

We are proud to bring that tradition to San Bernardino Valley College and SBCCD for the very first time. Join us for our inaugural Centennial Night Market, held in honor of Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and in celebration of 100 years of SBVC.

Celebrate culture. Build community. Light up the campus.

Join us for a night of food, music, and community as we celebrate 100 years of SBVC. See you at the Night Market.
