Getting Ready
Who is eligible to participate in Commencement 2022?
Any student who has submitted a graduation application and been approved for the Fall
2019/2020/2021, Spring 2020/2021/2022, Summer 2019/2020/2021 semesters are invited
to participate in commencement activities. If you are eligible to participate, you
must RSVP.
RSVP information will be sent to your student email and through text with the number
you have on file. Participation is not mandatory; however, we encourage you to attend
Commencement.
When and where is the 2022 SBVC Commencement?
Date: Wednesday, May 25, 2022

Stadium opens at 7:00 a.m. for guests

When and where may I purchase my cap, gown and graduation accessories?
If you will be participating in Commencement, here is what you will need: (All items
may be purchased at the SBVC Bookstore)
For AA/AS & Certificate Graduates:
• Cap, Gown & Tassel Unit (Black) - $43.00*
• Additional blue/silver tassels may be purchased
for $7.00*
For AA/AS Graduates Only:
• Associate Degree Graduation Hood (Black with Silver and Blue) - $28.00*
• AA/AS/Certificate Gold Honors Cord
3.0 or higher - $12.00*
• AA/AS/Certificate Gold Honors Tassel
3.0 or higher - $7.00*

Ceremony Day
When is the Commencement ceremony?
Wednesday, May 25, 2022
7am Check in inside the Athletics Complex
9am Commencement processional begins
What is expected of graduates during Commencement?
With everyone’s cooperation, this Commencement will be a proud and happy event for
our graduates and guests. The following rules of behavior will be enforced at the
ceremony:
1) No smoking or alcoholic beverages allowed. Inebriated students will not be allowed
to participate in the ceremony
2) Items that are disruptive will not be allowed
3) Marshals will provide directions for the following:
• Lining up
• Marching into the stadium (Processional)
• Seating
• Receiving diploma covers
• Keeping aisles clear to facilitate easy stage access
• Marching out of the stadium (Recessional)
• No purses or bags of any kind for the processional
To ensure the success of this special occasion, disruptive or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Students must remain seated until the entire ceremony has concluded.
Do graduates receive their diplomas/certificates at Commencement?
Both digital diploma and a paper diploma will be made available to graduates via Parchment
Services. An email will be sent to students once the diplomas are ready, with instructions.
Spring grads will receive notification on July 1st and summer grads will receive notification

Are parking permits or event tickets required for the ceremony? Where may we park?
Parking permits and event tickets are not required. Free parking will be available
for everyone; however, parking will be very limited so we strongly encourage you to
carpool. Due to parking limitations, we are working to identify other parking locations.
Further information regarding additional parking will be provided on this website.
At this time, parking in residential areas is strictly prohibited. Please plan on
arriving early.
What should I tell my guests is allowed and available in the stadium?
No outside food or beverages allowed in stadium (except water). No alcoholic beverages
will be permitted or sold. Backpacks and bags are subject to search. No banners, signs,
balloons, or any other items that block the view of guests may be carried into the
stadium or hung on bleacher rails.
Live Webcast
For friends and family members who are unable to attend the ceremony, the SBVC Commencement
ceremony will be streamed live online. On the day of the event, click on the “Commencement”
link provided on our homepage to watch the broadcast.
What provisions have been made for emergency health care during Commencement?
In the event of an emergency, please contact a police officer, security officer or
usher for assistance or direction to the First Aid Station.
What accommodations are available for persons with disabilities?
The SBVC Football Stadium is accessible to individuals with disabilities, but seating
is limited.

What is the correct way to wear academic attire?
Graduates wear the tassel forward and to the right. The cap is worn with the long
point of the shell to the rear. At the conclusion of the program, graduates move their
tassels to the left, thus signifying the conferring of the degree. Graduates are kindly
asked not to carry purses, bottles, balloons, etc. Water will be provided to graduates.
What about cameras? May we take pictures during the ceremony?
Yes. You are welcome to bring cameras to Commencement, however, guests may only take
pictures from their seats and should take care not to disturb those around them. Only
official photographers will be permitted in the graduates’ area. GradImages will photograph
each graduate at the ceremony, and proofs will be emailed and mailed after the ceremony.
What if it rains?
In the event of rain or other unforeseen circumstances, the ceremony will go on as
scheduled.
