Film, TV & Media Department

The San Bernardino Valley College Department of Film, Television & Media provides up to a two-year curriculum for students majoring in Film, TV, and Media Production. This results in the ability to transfer to a four-year institution or obtain certificates that enhance or develop your career path. The department features state of the art technology and equipment, iMac Pros, Arri Amira Camera, Sony FS7s, Motion Capture cameras, and a podcast studio.

Our Alumni

The Film, TV, and Media Program at San Bernardino Valley College–with its cutting-edge curriculum and outstanding faculty–guides students on a path towards transferring to a university and career preparation in the media and entertainment industries. Offering pathway driven Associates Degrees and Certificates in Filmmaking, Audio Technology, Social Media Video Production, and TV Studio Production. With these programs our students gain critical hands-on experience, which prepares them for further education and career opportunities in the media and entertainment industries.

Featured Degrees & Certificates

The Film, Television, and Media department offers a comprehensive instructional program in film production, TV studio production, audio broadcasting, and digital audio and video production for use in multimedia and Internet applications. The department provides a two-year curriculum for students majoring in the field resulting in the Associate of Arts Degree and/or transfer to a four-year institution and provides elective courses for students interested in related fields such as marketing, journalism, theater arts, multimedia, web page design, and data communications. The instructional program includes internships at local stations and businesses, on-air experience using the facilities of a student run Podcast Network and public television station KVCR, which is licensed to the San Bernardino Community College District.

A.A. in Film

The Associates of Art degree in Film is designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in the Film industry in a variety of areas including narrative, documentary production, writing, pre-production, and editing.

A.A. in Television

The Associate in Art degree in TV is designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in the television and new media industries in a variety of areas including serialized narrative and documentary, remote and studio production, writing, preproduction, and editing.

AS-T Degree

Students completing the AS-T degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Covers radio and television broadcasting, digital film production, and digital audio and video production for use in broadcasting, cablecasting, multimedia, film production, and Internet applications.

Video Production Certificate

The production certificate is designed to prepare students for career paths in film, tv, and media production. It emphasizes production of short narrative, documentary, and long form media content.

Post-Production Certificate

The Post-Production certificate is designed to prepare students for career paths in the post production of film, TV, and electronic media. This certificate covers areas of audio engineering, audio recording, video editing, effects, and color correction.

Media Development Certificate

This certificate is designed to prepare students for career paths in story development and production planning for film, tv, and media. The emphasis is in writing and production planning.

Get Your Idea Out There

Our program also prides itself on large scale production projects that allow students to create and collaborate in a professional setting. Annually through our program students produce either a half hour sketch comedy show, hour drama, half hour comedy, web-series, and a feature film. Our program also promotes our students through an annual international student film festival, which attracts industry professionals. Lastly, our program offers its students career development planning, through portfolio development, specialized workshops, and professional networking opportunities.
