Week of September 22, 2025
Greetings San Bernardino Valley College!
If you noticed, the Wolverine Weekly went on “sabbatical” last week. The Cabinet has been extremely busy finalizing the touches on a reorganization proposal that we will present at College Council on Wednesday. In addition, we have supported a number of centennial events and the ongoing governance work of the College. The weekly is back with a number of items to share.
Last week, we kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a celebration headed by Dr. Gina Ann Garcia, hosted a festive Black 2 School Night, and we participated in a livestream viewing with legendary Dolores Huerta. In addition, I sat down for an interview with Yvette Walker, the host of KVCR IE Latino Voices. I also had the honor of performing the first serve at Women’s Volleyball and the first kick at Women’s Soccer. Finally, the amazing work of the new applied technology building was showcased at the State of the County in Ontario by Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr.
Here are some highlights to share this week:
- CELEBRATING 100 YEARS WITH 100 EVENTS. CENTENNIAL MOMENTS - VIDEO RECAPS
SBVC continues our year-long celebration of celebrating 100 years with 100 events. We have celebrated many events already and our marketing team continues capturing the lived centennial experience on campus and is sharing highlight videos throughout the year. Watch all the recaps on our YouTube channel.
- VISIT FROM CONGRESSMAN PETE AGUILAR
It was an honor to host Congressman Pete Aguilar on campus September 12. Thanks to Dr. Vanessa Thomas, Dean of Applied Technology, Transportation, and Culinary Arts and the San Bernardino Community College District office for making this happen.
- HISTORIC FOOTBALL WIN SEPTEMBER 13
The Wolverines notched their first home win since 2021 with a 70-0 victory over Compton on Saturday, September 13. It was the program’s fourth-most points scored in a game and third-highest points in a shutout. The team set a school record by allowing Compton only 21 yards of total offense in the game. A one-handed touchdown grab made ESPN’s Top 10 Sports Plays! Go Wolverines!
- LATIN JAZZ GREAT PONCHO SANCHEZ LIVE IN CONCERT AT SBVC
On October 12, Grammy-winning Latin jazz musician Poncho Sanchez will give a free concert at the Greek Theatre. The concert is at 6 p.m. and seating is first come, first served. The Dariel Peniazek guitar duo will open for Sanchez. Bring a blanket and enjoy food from Tacolandia. See you there!
