The first-ever Lavender Grad celebration at San Bernardino Valley College was held on campus May 15, honoring LGBTQ+ students and their allies. Hosted by the Office of Student Life, the event included a luncheon for graduates and their guests, speeches from students, and remarks from campus administrators. Each participant also received a special graduation stole. "This event is one way to celebrate with our students in a space that is safe and embraces their authentic selves," Marie Maghuyop, student activities specialist with the Office of Student Life, said

SBVC strives to ensure that every Wolverine feels seen, heard, and recognized, and the idea for Lavender Grad was sparked by feedback from students. "It's important for us to recognize the different identities of our students, whether they are Black, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, LGBTQ, DREAMERS, or all of the above," Maghuyop said. "Our hope is to grow these celebrations every year."
