Applying for your Achievements

Summer Applicants wishing to participate in the Spring ceremony have until Monday, April 30, 2012 to apply! Graduation Application and Grad Check are submitted to Admissions & Records (AD/SS-100).

 

  • Fall- October 1st
  • Spring- March 1st
  • Summer- July 1

Associate Degrees

Seeking an Associate of Arts or Science degree from SBVC? Applicants will meet with a Counselor for a Graduation Check prior to application. The grad check will assure you that you are eligible under any of the following patterns:

Option 1a- IGETC Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum
Option 1b- CSUGE California State Univ. General Education Breadth Requirements
Option 2- General Associate Degree (AA or AS) 
Degree & Certificate Major Requirements

Certificate of Achievement or Certificate of Career Preparation

SBVC offers certificates of occupational proficiency in many fields. Applicants will meet with a Counselor prior to application (No Grad Check Required). If a student is deficient in one or more requirements a Modification of Major may be an option; department division approval is required.

Note: Twelve units, or 50 percent of the coursework required for a certificate, whichever is the lesser, must be completed at San Bernardino Valley College. This residency requirement may be waived in the case of extenuating circumstances with the permission of the Division Chairperson and Dean.


Graduation Catalog Rights

A student may elect to meet degree/certificate requirements in
any one of the following ways:

  • Using Catalog Rights at the time the student begins at
    SBVC without interruption, or
  • For the student who drops out for two or more
    consecutive semesters is subject to the requirements
    in the catalog at the time of reentry, or
  • The catalog in effect at the time the graduation
    application is submitted.
  • Note that summer session course requirement are included in the catalog of the previous academic year.

Graduation Requirement Exceptions

When a student has a deficiency in one or more of the areas required for graduation, he/she has the option of filing a Petition for Academic Exception. Each petition will be considered on the basis of its overall, individual merit by the Scholastic Standards Committee. If a student is deficient in the Major Requirements a Modification of Major must be submitted at time of application; department division approval is required.
