• California LVN license

  • Proof of High School completion (transcript or diploma, or GED or Calif. H.S. proficiency score)

  • One year full-time med-surg work experience as an LVN (submit list of employer(s), patient care unit type, starting and ending dates)

  • Freshman Composition, ENGL 101 with a grade of C or higher

  • Intermediate College Algebra, MATH 095 with a grade of C or higher
    (or higher level math course)

  • 4 Science Courses, each with a grade of C or higher and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.75 in the four courses:

    Anatomy and Physiology I & II                        BIOL 250 & 251     8 Units with lab
    Human Anatomy and Human Physiology BIOL 260 & 261 8 Units with lab
    Microbiology BIOL 270 4-5 Units with lab 
    General Psychology PSYCH 100 3 Units


  • Microbiology (BIOL 270) has prerequisites of BIOL 250 or BIOL 260 or BIOL 261 and CHEM 101

  • CHEM 101 is a prerequisite for BIOL 250 (starting fall 2012), BIOL 261, and BIOL 270
  • Physiology (BIOL 261 or BIOL 250/251) and Microbiology (BIOL 270) must be taken within 5 years of application to the nursing program.

  • Anatomy & Physiology I & II (BIOL 250/251) must be completed at the same regionally accredited college or university.

  • Human Anatomy & Human Physiology (BIOL 260/261) may be taken at different regionally accredited colleges or universities.

Required General Education Courses

Courses listed below must be completed prior to applying to the program in order to graduate with an A.S. in Nursing and be eligible to take the state licensing exam.

  • Communication Studies: Elements of Public Speaking (COMMST 100) OR Interpersonal Communication (COMMST 111) with a grade of C or higher
  • Social/Behavioral Science: Introduction to Sociology (SOC 100) OR Cultural Anthropology (ANTHRO 102) with a grade of C or higher.

    • The humanities courses are selected from Category III of the SBVC Graduation Requirements Breadth Sheet
    • Humanity #1 and Humanity #2 must be selected from 2 different disciplines
    • Only one humanity course is accepted from the “Applied Humanities” area of the SBVC Graduation Requirements Breadth Sheet.
