Phineas is SBVC's own literary magazine, publishing student poetry, fiction, essays and art at the end of the spring semester each year.

The magazine is designed and assembled during the spring semester by students enrolled in English 125: Literary Magazine Production. The students in the class become the editors and make all the important literary and design decisions guided by the instructor of the class, who serves as the magazine's faculty advisor.

Phineas 2021

Due to factors related to the pandemic, Phineas will be on hiatus for the 2020-21 academic year. This means that there will be no Phineas 2021 issue. A successful issue of Phineas requires the coherent and sustained development of student talent in classes and events (like poetry readings and student art shows), the ability to receive a sufficient number of quality submissions that are representative of college student artists and writers, and the recruitment of enough students for Engish 125, who select submissions, edit and design the magazine. All of these are challenges in a normal academic year.

Phineas will return with its 2022 edition. Writers and artists can begin to submit for that issue in October of 2021. Submission guidelines will be posted here before October 1, 2021.
