The Heavy/Medium Duty Diesel Truck Technology (Diesel) program offers students high technology training and skills that may be utilized for immediate employment after certificate completion.

Overview

Students will receive training in various subjects including brake and suspension, computer controlled engines, emphasis in electrical and heavyduty maintenance. Students working for certificates must have a basic knowledge of arithmetic, reading and writing in order to learn and work in the occupations they select.

The department has one of the best training facilities in the Inland Empire. Students will receive training in various subjects including brake and suspension, computer controlled engines, electrical and heavy-duty maintenance. Job placement opportunities are substantial though the department's network of employers.

Diesel Engine and Fuel Injection Technology Certificate

The Diesel Engine and Fuel Injection Technology certificate offers students high technology training and skills that may be utilized for immediate employment after certification completion. Students will receive training in various subjects including repair, operation and maintenance of heavy-duty industrial diesel engines and computer controlled diesel engines. The certificate will also cover basic electrical theory, use of meters, test equipment, and wiring diagrams. The certificate also covers general troubleshooting and diagnostic testing. The certificate may also be used in preparation for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) National Test.

Heavy/Medium Duty Clean Vehicle Technology Certificate

This certificate is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of alternative fuel technology as it applies to industrial. The curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in diesel and electrical maintenance, field service, and networking, in the field of Diesel/Hybrid/ Alternative fuel to include Electrical power technology.

PROGRAM LEVEL OUTCOMES:
  1. Diagnose and repair malfunctions in electrical systems and componnets of alternative fuel systems.
  2. Disassemble, inspect and repair parts, which are reusable in a manner consistent with accepted trade practices.
  3. Assemble a Diesel engine and/or an Direct Current (DC) or Alternating Current (AC) electric motor in accordance with manufacturer instreuctions and specifications.
  4. Perform routine servicing of heavy-duty vehicle by evaluating equipment conditions and successfully  in a manner consistant with industry practices and safety standards.
  5. Troubleshoot and electrical system failure, diagnose the cause and correctly repair that failure in accordance with accepted industry standards.

The Diesel Truck Technology degree prepares the students to seek employment in maintenance and repair of heavy/medium duty trucks at beginning level and can move to advanced level after some experience.

  6. Perform routine servicing of heavy-duty vehicles by evaluating tire and other equipment conditions and successfully and safely removing and replacing tires and other equipment in a manner consistent with industry practices and safety standards
  7. Troubleshoot a truck electrical system failure, diagnose the cause and correctly repair that failure in accordance with accepted industry standards
  8. Be prepared to transfer a core curriculum to an accredited, four-year college or university with junior class standing
