CTE Student/Alumni Employment Opportunities: sbvc.jobspeaker.com

As part of the Strong Workforce Program Grant, Regional Job Developer at San Bernardino Valley College market Career Technical Education (CTE) students/alumni and programs in an effort to increase program awareness and enrollment. In addition, job developers identify industry needs and connect qualified CTE students, facilitating a match for job placement, and provide CTE students with job readiness and support services. This is accomplished by the following:

Employer Networking Events
Mock Interviews and Workshops
Cooperative Work Experience and Apprenticeship Programs
Resume Writing Assistance
- Students can easily create cover letters and resumes by browsing sample templates or building them from the ground up using the our resume menu.
- In the interview prep module, you can practice and refine your interviewing skills from the comfort of your own home or office. You control all aspects of your interview practice session including the interview type, the number of questions, response format, and the interviewer.
- The profile and skill sets builder helps you create an online gallery of your work that can be shared as a link or downloaded as a zip file to help demonstrate your transferable skills and track your professional development.

Recently funds from Strong Workforce Program Regional Job Developer purchased Jobspeaker for SBVC students and graduates which is offered for free. This software allows users to take advantage of a variety of resume templates, learn interview techniques and more to strengthen the application process and Employers and interactive job board to see qualified candidates.

Student Success Stories:

Alvin Hernandez is a Spring 2018 graduate of our Powerplant Maintenance Technician Certificate program and Airframe Maintenance Certificate program who was offered an Aviation Maintenance Technician position at Compass Airlines (out of LAX) on January 10, 2019. He is FAA certified and currently earning $21.00 an hour. Alvin was also flown out to Tuscon, Arizona on January 25, 2019 by Sky West as they were impressed with his resume.

Guillermo Martinez, 34, began his SBVC Machining journey in Spring 2016. Under the guidance of adjunct faculty Miguel Ortiz, Martinez studied over three years before being offered a Computer Numerical Control Programmer/Mechanic position with LeVecke Corporation, a wholesale distributor of distilled spirits. Martinez is quick to credit the instruction of Ortiz and the access to the latest technology in the classroom for being job-ready when LeVecke called. "[Mr. Ortiz]" had a wealth of knowledge when it came to teaching and had an answer to every question I had. I was very fortunate that the Machining Program had the latest software of Mastercam/Solidworks with updated HASS CNC, mills, lathes and grinders," said Martinez. Martinez, who already earned certificates for CNC operator and manual operator, plans to return soon for a third certificate.
