The hospitality business is the second largest employing industry in California and the United States. At SBVC, the Culinary Arts program offers a variety of courses to prepare students for a job in the restaurant or hospitality field.

Learning the business while serving affordable meals is part of the coursework that includes: Menu Planning Principles, Quantity Food Preparation and Food, Wine and Beverage Service Concepts. Culinary Arts certificates include Dining Room Service, Food Preparation and Food Service.

During the fall and spring semesters, Culinary Arts students work in The Sunroom to gain experience in food service and restaurant management. The Sunroom is open to students and the public from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

The menu changes from month to month with options ranging from $1.75 for a cup of soup to $7.50 for grilled salmon. Other menu choices have included: beef fajita salad, shrimp salad, top sirloin steak, taco burger and more. Beverages and dessert are also available.
