  • This is a HYBRID class. This means that there are both on-campus and online Internet activities required. To participate in this class you must attend all scheduled on-campus classes and have access to a computer that has a reliable internet connection. Students should access http://online.valleycollege.edu during the week prior to the semester start date. All information regarding this class, including course-specific technology requirements, will be found on that webpage. The course may not be accessible to students until the first day of the class.

Dr. Moore is not responsible for the content of the video and Dr. Moore cannot help you if you have technical problems with your computer or watching the video.
Textbooks for my classes are indicated on the SBVC Bookstore webpage. The SBVC Bookstore will send an email to students' SBCCD email accounts with information on how to access free books before the class begins for Fall 2024 students. If you have difficulty accessing the textbook or you do not receive an email to your SBCCD account regarding access to your textbook, contact the SBVC Bookstore. I will not respond to emails or phone calls regarding textbooks. I will not respond to phone calls regarding online classes.

Students in regular or hybrid classes need to attend the first class meeting to see if there is space for students to be added. Students wishing to add my online classes will need to enroll on the waitlist for the class. Do not email me before the start day of the class. Your email will be deleted. If I am able to add students, I will add students based on the waitlist in Self Service.

All students who are enrolled in my classes or who want to add the class need to read this entire web page for information on how the class is run, where to find textbook information, drop policies, etc.

My online, hybrid, and web enhanced classes require you to submit coursework online. Students need to read the syllabus to find out how many absences will result in being dropped from the class or how failing to submit required work will result in being dropped from the class.

Make sure you can do the following (if you have never done any of the following on the list, you should enroll in a different class):
1. Read and follow instructions carefully. Print out the syllabus and assignment instructions as soon as they are available on the course Canvas website.
2. Purchase and/or have accessed your textbook before the first day of class.
3. Read your textbook and any other review materials on a weekly schedule.
4. Work on your own by developing and maintaining a consistent study schedule.
5. Do all work early or on time.
6. Write a 4-6 page paper using the correct grammar.
7. Submit a file as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file from your computer.
8. Take timed quizzes and exams online.
9. Submit all work before the deadline.

All of my classes require textbooks. Textbook information is available online (normally at least 5-6 weeks before classes start) by going to the Bookstore link on the SBVC website and following the instructions on the site.

If you cannot access the textbook and have the textbook available to you on the first day of class, you need to contact the SBVC Bookstore as soon as possible. I will not change any deadlines because you do not have the textbook. You will not succeed in the class without a textbook.

My online classes do not require physical attendance (you do not have to come to campus), but you do need to submit required work each week as evidence of attendance. If you cannot do this, then enroll in other classes because you will be dropped from the class or you will fail the class.
My hybrid and web enhanced classes require attendance on the dates indicated on the schedule of classes. If you cannot meet at the times indicated on the schedule, you will be in danger of being dropped from the class.

Read the syllabus for the class(es) you are enrolled in to learn about other course policies regarding submitting required work.

To succeed in my online classes and web-enhanced classes, you need:
1. Access to hi-speed internet and a computer (desk top, lap top, or tablet)at home, work and any other location you will be at for any length of time
2. To check the class Canvas site at least once a day
3. To access or purchase and have in your hands, the required textbook by the first day of class
4. To study at least 8-10 hours per week
5. To have good reading comprehension skills
6. To have good writing skills
7. To submit all required work before the deadline
8. To have good planning and organization skills

Please allow students who can meet the class requirements to take the class. Do not assume online classes will be easier than regular classes, they are harder than regular classes.

Students may need a video player program such as RealPlayer or QuickTime on their computer to view online videos for this class.

For online classes, students will be required to submit papers online, take all exams, tests, and quizzes online, and communicate with me and their classmates online. Each component of the class will be clearly laid out in the syllabus. Online classes have no meetings.

I expect you to read all documents pertaining to the online class you are enrolled in. This will include the syllabus, assignment instructions, quiz instructions, test and exam instructions and Discussion Post instructions.

Students can expect to have work due each week. Deadlines are clearly indicated on the syllabus and students are expected to follow them. If you cannot manage your time to meet these deadlines, you will not be successful in the class.

I expect you to communicate with me online. Once the class begins, I expect students enrolled in the class to use the Inbox tool (the communication system within the Canvas site) to communicate with me. I will help you if you have questions about the course material, but you need to contact me online in a timely manner.

A message will be sent to registered students' Canvas Inbox at least 5-6 days before the class start date with instructions on accessing the course online. All communications sent to students once the course begins will be through the Canvas Inbox tool. If you do not check your Canvas Inbox to find out instructions about the class and you miss a deadline, you will be dropped from the class.

Most of the course content will be visible in the class website after 7am on the start date of the class. You are expected to know when the class starts by reading the Class Schedule when you register.

You are expected to explore the class website on your own and read all the documents contained in the areas relevant to your class once the class begins.
