• This is a HYBRID class. This means that there are both on-campus and online Internet activities required. To participate in this class you must attend all scheduled on-campus classes and have access to a computer that has a reliable internet connection. Students should access http://online.valleycollege.edu during the week prior to the semester start date. All information regarding this class, including course-specific technology requirements, will be found on that webpage. The course may not be accessible to students until the first day of the class. Note: This section is linked with MATH 108 section 114 as a part of a support course for Introduction to Probability and Statistics. This means that students enrolling in MATH 608 section 114 MUST ALSO ENROLL IN MATH 108 section 114. This course is intended to enhance math preparedness for successful completion in Math 108.

Welcome to our M108 online course....

We WILL be using Canvas for this course. You will log into our Pearson MyStatLab course through Canvas.

This class is completely online, including the Final Exam.

Pearson offers a Free Trial Period. This can be used in the beginning, but you must purchase your access BEFORE the free trial expires.

All students must be registered into the computer element of the course by 11:59 p.m. on the second day of class (using their Pearson Access Code), or they will be dropped from the class.

Please consider carefully whether this online class is the right class for you.

To succeed in an online class you must be self-motivated and manage your time well. You need to be able to study on your own from the videos, tutorials and textbook. You must be able to read all material and documents and announcements for the course and to stay on the timeline provided by our calendar.

For example, if you find yourself already SKIPPING over words while reading this, then an Online course may not be the best choice for you.

You must read ALL communications entirely in an Online classroom.

You will need to spend approximately 10-12 hours a week studying for this course. This is a college level course that is transferable at the University level.

You also need to have access to your own computer that has a high speed internet connection and be able to download all of the necessary plug-ins from the course website.

Microsoft Office Excel for PC is a requirement for this course (NOT mac or other versions).

Deadlines are clearly posted for each assignment. Homework will be due throughout the week, and there are no make-ups for homework or tests. Homework and tests will be done on the computer.

Please do not be under the misconception that online courses are easier than regular courses! On the contrary, an online course requires more effort than a regular course.

If you feel that you have the self-motivation and study skills required for this type of course then be assured that I will be with you throughout the course.

Although I will not be able to answer your questions instantaneously, I will respond in a reasonable amount of time. I will be communicating with the class on a regular basis, clearly outlining the objectives and posting to our calendar.
