Welcome to English 161, Women Writers.

Our class starts February 10. It is designed as a quick-paced, 14 week class.
We will need the following books for the class:
Worlds in Our Words by Marilyn Kallet and Patricia Clark- ISBN # 0-13-182130-X
Mrs. Caliban by Rachel Ingalls, ISBN #0-440-50003-6

Mrs. Caliban is out of print, and the SBVC bookstore may have a few copies. It is easy to obtain at and other online sources. When you order books online, it is worth your money to get Express shipping in order to have the books before the class begins. We will be reading Mrs. Caliban towards the end of the semester, but we will be reading World in Our Words IMMEDIATELY! You can find it in the SBVC bookstore and online. If you can't purchase the books immediately, you can search online and find some of the assigned readings.

The first assignment for readings is from World in Our Words, Chapter One in the introduction, "Finding Words" and the authors:
Walkers Everyday Use.
Silkos Lullaby
Lordes Poetry is not a Luxury
Lordes A Litany for Survival

This will get you started. If you are not used to reading poetry, that's okay. You will learn in this class.

See you in February,
