Students must have access to a computer with internet connection and be able to purchase or access the required textbook edition for the course within the first few days of class. The Canvas Mobile App for smartphones is not 100% compatible with the required exams, discussions, and assignment submission processes.

Please note that online and hybrid classes require students to be organized and have college-level reading, comprehension, and writing skills. The SBVC sociology department advises students to complete ENGL 015 and MATH 962 first prior to enrolling in sociology courses. Sociology courses require students to demonstrate competency through written work which involves critical thinking and interpretation of numerical tables and figures. Critical thinking is defined as "disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded and informed by evidence" (Dictionary.com).
