WHAT IS STEM?
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Here, at San Bernardino Valley College, we promote and support STEM education through our student support services, faculty and STEM curriculum. We believe that we can help in generating future scientists, engineers, technologists, and mathematicians for the US and global economy.
According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics (2012), employment in STEM occupations is projected to grow almost two times faster than the average for all occupations over the next decade. Moreover, the number of STEM graduates in the US would need to increase by 20 to 30 percent between 2006 and 2016 to meet the country’s projected growth in science and engineering employment alone. Clearly, we have a vested interest to help prepare our students for STEM employment.
We encourage you to investigate your place in a STEM career and your educational STEM goals at San Bernardino Valley College. We also have two STEM counselors, Mrs. Daniele Ramsey and Mrs. Rutina Taylor! If you would like to make an appointment to speak with one of our counselors about your STEM career goals, please request an appointment by calling 909-384-8655 or you can schedule an appointment appointment online.
