English Proficiency

Do I need to take TOEFL or an English test for admissions?

All classes are conducted in English.  To successfully complete an academic program in the college, applicants must demonstrate their proficiency in English communication skills.  The minimum score of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) required for admissions is 45-46/iBT (Internet-based test.)  Information regarding test dates and locations can be found at http://www.ets.org/toefl/. San Bernardino Valley College's Institution Code is 04679.  The college also accepts IELTS test result.  For information about the minimum scores required for admissions, please email International Student Counselor jmarquis@valleycollege.edu.  Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from this requirement.  The college offers four levels of ESL courses for non-English speakers.  However, it does not have an intensive ESL (English as a Second Language) program at this time.

In addition to TOEFL score for admissions, all newly-admitted students are required to take the Basic Skills Assessment Test to assess the levels of their English comprehension and writing skills before registering for classes.
