2014 Valley College Commencement May 23rd!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (San Bernardino, CA)—San Bernardino Valley College celebrates its 87th annual commencement on Friday, May 23rd, starting at 9:00 a.m. on the college’s athletic field.
Over 1,200 students qualified for graduation this year. The board of trustees of the San Bernardino Community College District will be awarding Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees, as well as Certificates in a wide variety of career and technical fields.
The student speaker is Ms. Bethany Faz, a City of San Bernardino native. She was home schooled and has maintained a 4.0 grade point average at Valley College. She is receiving two AA degrees, one in biology and one in social science. But her real love is mathematics, which she will be majoring in at Cal State San Bernardino, where she has been accepted to continue her education in the fall.
Valley College will also present the 11th group of graduates from the Middle College High School. This innovative program allows high school students to attend college classes on the Valley College campus. A group of 47 seniors are graduating this year, four of whom have fulfilled the requirements for an AA degree, in addition to their high school diploma. The student cohort achieved an average GPA of 3.06 for their Valley College course work and averaged just over 35 college units completed. These students will either now continue their education at San Bernardino Valley College or go on to a four-year college or university.
