Drive-Thru E-Waste Recycling Event Set For Weekend of January 28 and 29

SBVC’s Alpha Gamma Sigma club will host another free, two-day e-waste collection event in parking lot #8 (access via Grant Avenue) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to prevent unnecessary additions to local landfills.

Electronic discard is one of the fastest growing segments of this nation’s waste stream as approximately 70% of heavy metals and 40% of lead and mercury contents found in today’s landfills come from electronic waste.

This e-waste event is SBVC’s 4th collection event in the last 18 months. After collecting 43,540 pounds of e-waste at a weekend collection event in June 2010, SBVC's Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) and Associated Student Government (ASG) shattered their previous record by collecting 80,000 pounds at another drive-through e-waste recycling event on the weekend of January 29-30, 2011.

E-waste is any consumer electronic equipment that has reached its ‘end-of-life’ or ‘end-of-usage,’ whether in full or non-working condition. It includes most electronics or electric appliances with a cord or circuit board such as:

Computer Monitors, Television sets, PC Systems, Printers, Laptops, Copiers, Scanners, Fax Machines, Toner Cartridges, UPS & PDAs, Power Supplies, Main Frame Units, Networking Equipment, Mother Board Systems, VCR/VCD/DVD Players, Home Entertainment Systems, Landline and Cellular Phones, & Small Portable Devices. We also accept car and forklift batteries. There is a $5.00 service fee for Microwave Ovens.

Event organizers will not accept: Refrigerators, Washer and Dryers, Fluorescent Light Bulbs, and Household Batteries.
