Getting Started

  • Apply to SBVC and Attend an Information Meeting
  • Complete all required prerequisites (Get copy of the Work Sheet)
  • Apply to Psychiatric Technician Program
  • Applications are available in the Health Science Office, HLS 101 and on-line.
  • Complete ALL prerequisites before applying to program.
  • Proof of High School completion (transcript or Diploma or G.E.D. score or previous college degree).
  • Official college transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, except SBVC or Crafton Hills College. (Foreign graduates must have their transcripts evaluated prior to applying to the program.)
  • Submit application to SBVC Department of Psychiatric Technology by February 1 for Fall semester entry or September 1 for Spring semester entry (or next business day if due date falls on a weekend). Completed applications include proof of completion of the prerequisites and high school graduation or GED and may be submitted at any time.
  • Registration in the program courses is limited to students who have completed program prerequisites, have applied, been accepted into the program and availability of space. The program is three semesters (including summer) in length, not including completion of prerequisites. Classes and clinical experiences are scheduled Monday through Friday (daytime only). Students are admitted twice a year in the fall and spring semesters.
  • Note: A clear background check and health requirements must be completed before enrollment in the program. California may deny a license to an applicant based on a conviction or legal action substantially related to professional practice.
