Biotechnology A.S. Degree Major

This degree has been designed to meet the increasing need for entry-level laboratory technicians in biotechnology.  Technicians in this field must be proficient in the application of scientific methodology to solve problems. They must learn/implement laboratory procedures and use specialized laboratory equipment.  Much of the technician's work involves repetitive routines that must be done precisely, quickly and safely. Upon completion of this degree students will be eligible for positions such as lab assistant, and laboratory support worker.  In addition, competency in organizational, computational and communications skills is essential.  Students must complete the following required courses plus the general breadth requirements for the Associate  Degree for a total of 60 units.

NOTE:  BIOL 270 has a prerequisite of a Biology course (BIOL 250 or BIOL 260 or BIOL 261 or BIOL 201) and CHEM 101.  MATH 102 and 108 have a prerequisite of MATH 095 or eligibility for MATH 102 as determined through the SBVC assessment process.
