President
Robert Alexander |
 |
My name is Robert Alexander; I am your 2009-2010 ASG President;
I am a certified student leader and a U'S Army Veteran. I have been
a student of SBVC since Fall semester of 2006. I am currently serving
my third term in office with ASG; first term as a Senator. I was
one of the key players in jump starting the textbook rental program
at SBVC. I am happy to report that under my direction and leadership
the ASG has built many bridges for incoming students, enhanced the
effectiveness of our current student government, and advocated for
the students at all levels.
I will continue to fight to lower the cost of text books; by
lobbying for tax free textbooks, fight to keep text books in circulation
larger, fight to increase the Pell Grant amounts, expand the text
book rental program, enhance students discounts in the community
for ASB stickers, address Governors budget cuts, lobby to lowering
student fees, address student parking fees, enhance student activities
on campus, advocated to improve the accommodations for our disabled
students, attempt to offer more student scholarships with ASG funds
and address environmental issues by achieving a more environmentally
safe and friendly student government.
In December 2007, I completed certificates in Administration
of Justice and Crime Scene Investigation. I have completed over
106 units at SBVC. I plan to continue my education by attending
SBVC and studying in the fields of Paralegal Studies, Drug and Alcohol
studies, Sociology, Psychology and Corrections. I hope to obtain
dual certificates in Human Services & Corrections. After obtaining
my certificates, I plan to transfer to a four year University to
obtain a Masters degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology/Criminal
Profiling, then go on to Law School. My objective of attending SBVC
is to prepare me for a career in law and politics. I hope one day
to serve as a U.S Congressman and/or U.S Senator.
I have been placed on the Dean's list for academic achievement
all semesters attending SBVC. I have a GPA of over 3.7. I have served
as President of Alpha Gamma Sigma. I have been a member of the New
Visions club. I am currently active in the Student Senate for California
Community Colleges and have held the position of Region IX Vice-President.
During my time at SBVC, I have served on several shared governance
committees. I have been honored with receiving the Associated Student
Senate Scholarship, Dr. Arthur M. Jensen President's Award, William
Hellyer Scholarship, Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship, and Dr. Donald
M. Rusk Memorial Scholarship. As well as being a full-time student,
I am currently working full-time, married and have two children.

Vice
President
Damaris Castillo-Torres
|
 |
My name is Damaris Castillo-Torres. I am a Pacific High School
graduate. I started at San Bernardino Valley College in the Fall
of 2007. I started as a Kinesiology major and I am now double majoring
in Spanish and Math. I plan to transfer in the fall of 2010. My
first semester here, I was involved in the Cheerleading, Spanish
and Puente Club. In Puente, I was elected Inter Club Council (ICC)
Representative. After a few ICC meetings, I was elected ICC Secretary.
I liked the purpose of these meetings and when the opportunity came
to direct these meetings, I took it. In the spring, I ran for Student
Organizations Director, and thanks to the students, here I am an
elected official.
On of my goals for the year is to create a calendar of events
that schedules all club functions. This calendar would be available
to all students, to help them keep track of events and increase
their participation.

Instructional
Support Services
Brandy Foutch |
 |
My name is Brandy Foutch. I am a single mother with a five-year-old
son. I currently work part time while attending college. I have
been a student at SBVC for almost two years now. When I began at
Valley College, I attended primarily for job advancement; secondly
for a degree. When my position in Human Resources closed with the
company I worked for, I decided to concentrate on an academic degree
and my son.
To build on my career experience, I am now majoring in Business
Administration Accounting, with a minor in Art, which will allow
me to anticipate both the benefits of a career after graduation,
as well as a more fulfilling personal life. I have spent the better
portion of this last year focusing not only on my academic studies
but exploring the benefits that college may offer to a single parent.
Furthermore, over the last year, I have maintained a grade point
average above 3.25, allowing me to enjoy the activities of the Alpha
Gamma Sigma, Delta Chapter, Honors Society and I am currently serving
as President. Additionally, I have accepted the position of the
Instructional Support Services Director for the Associated Student
Government.
In light of the fact that the position of Instructional Support
Services Director with ASG is a new position, I am looking forward
to furthering the development of the roles within the position.
I believe that this can be achieved by creating a viable relationship
with the Instruction Office while actively representing the concerns
of the students and the Associated Student Government. I anticipate
opening new doors and forming new pathways of communication and
collaboration to help maximize the college experience for my fellow
students.
