STAR, Success Through Achievement and Retention, (ADSS, Room 201) provides free tutoring, academic workshops, personal and academic counseling, cultural enrichment activities, and more, to qualifying SBVC students.

As a federally funded TRiO Student Support Services program, STAR provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their AA/AS degree.

The goal of STAR is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants, and facilitate the process of transferring to a four year university. Most importantly, all of the STAR staff focus on helping students meet their educational needs in a positive supportive setting!

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Meet One Of The Following: First Generation College Student, Low Income, or Physical or Learning Disability
• Registered in 9 Units or More
• Enrolled in English, Reading, Math, Biology, or Chemistry 101 or 104 (First Semester In STAR)
• US Citizen or Resident
• Working on an AA/AS Degree (Some Programs Will Not Qualify)
• Planning To Transfer To A Four-Year University
