SBVC Scholarship Application Overview :
Below is a summary of the online scholarship application for NEXT Fall.  The 2010 SBVC Online Application is Closed, as of Monday 1/25/10 at noon.  You can look for more information about our annual online scholarship in the Fall semester.  If you have already applied for this year, you will be notified in your STUDENT email account before the award ceremony in May 2010.

1. STUDENT INFORMATION :
In this section a window will appear with your current student information. You will correct and complete the general information.

2. SCHOLARSHIP QUESTIONNAIRE :
You will be asked an extensive list of questions. Every question refers to eligibility factors of one or more of the SBVC scholarships. You may answer as many or as few questions as you like; however, incomplete answers may greatly reduce the number of scholarships for which you may be eligible.

3. STUDENT ESSAY :
You will be asked to write a 250-300 word single spaced essay. Prior to completing your application online, it is recommended that you write your essay and store it on a floppy disk or some other form of digital storage. You may also bring your hand-written or printed essay for typing on to the application. If you save your essay, you will have the option to Cut and Paste your essay to the application.

If you go beyond the count of (300) words or do not single space on your biography, it will be cut at 25 lines and you may not have included pertinent information.

Please consider taking your essay to the campus Learning Resource Center (LRC) or the Writing Center in LA 201, and utilizing the writing, proofing and editing services they provide.  For more tips on Essays & Recommendations visit the Scholarship Events page.

4. SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY & AGREEMENTS :
In this section, you will be asked to sign (check the box) statements like the following :

  • The submitted information is true.
  • The Scholarship Committee will use my application for screening purposes only.
  • I understand that receiving a printed list of scholarships for which I may be eligible, does not guarantee I will be awarded a scholarship.

5. SAVE OR SUBMIT :
You will be able to return to your application to complete the questions or your essay by selecting SAVE.
After you select SUBMIT, you may return to read, but not add or change, your application.

The deadline to submit your student SBVC Scholarship Application is:

TBA

6. FACULTY RECOMMENDATIONS :
Each student must ask two (2) SBVC faculty members to complete an Online Recommendation Form, or a faculty plus a counselor, or a faculty plus an administrator.

As a courtesy, please give the instructor, counselor or administrator your request in writing including your full name and Valley College student ID number.  The online recommendation form is available to faculty only.  Students cannot access that section or complete the form.

Applicants must request 2 recommendations by the end of the Fall semester to give the recommenders sufficient time to write outstanding information about you.

When the faculty member submits his/her recommendation for you, his/her name will appear on the first page of your application along with the date of submission.  For detailed instructions for faculty, please direct them to our Scholarship Events page.
