SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Community Foundation Scholarships The Community Foundation of Riverside generously gives SBVC thousands of dollars to support worthy students. Individual scholarship awards in previous years have ranged between $200 and $500. This is a competitive scholarship, so not all eligible applicants will receive an award. Award money will be used for tuition and class expenses for the Spring 2010 semester. In order to be eligible for a Community Foundation Scholarship, you must: 1) be a permanent resident of Riverside or San Bernardino Counties (which means you have lived for at least the last year and one day within these counties), 2) have a cumulative SBVC GPA of 3.0 (or 2.75 if enrolled in a certificate course in technical training), 3) be taking enough units (this fall semester) to be considered at least 50% of full-time (6 units), and 4) be able to demonstrate financial need.
This application closed at Noon on Monday, November 2. Notifications to awardees will be emailed to your student email account in December 2009. Please email any questions regarding your application status to mvaldema@valleycollege.edu. If you received a notification that there were technical difficulties with your application, please visit the computer labs in the SBVC Learning Center or the SBVC Library for assistance the next time you apply. Datatel Scholarships Several scholarships are available from Datatel. The applicant must have a 3.5 grade point average or higher. San Bernardino Valley College is allowed to nominate two semi-finalists each for the Datatel Scholars Foundation and Angelfire scholarships and one semi-finalist each for the Returning Student, the Nancy Goodhue Lynch Scholarship and the Russ Griffith Memorial. Awards for finalists are generally in the $1000-$2000 range. The application is usually online by September; however this year the Datatel Scholars Foundation is revamping the application process. Students should go to the website below periodically to find out more information and to fill out the online application when it becomes available. The deadline to complete the online application is usually the end of January; however this deadline may also change. Part of the requirements to apply, include writing a 800 -1,000 word essay. Visit the SBVC Writing Center in LA201 for assistance with preparing your essay.

Textbook Program (Not offered again until Spring Semester) Students with serious financial need may be nominated by course faculty to receive the primary textbook from that course. You must be enrolled in a course, and the instructor for that course must fill out the nomination form. Not all students nominated receive the course text as funds are limited. Students are eligible for only one book per semester through this program. Discuss this program with your instructor during the first week of class.
