WHAT TYPES OF PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED AT SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY COLLEGE? We offer vocational training, certificate programs, associate degrees, and/or preparation for transfer to a university.
WHAT IS A COLLEGE CATALOG? The college catalog contains important information regarding policies and procedures, as well as, descriptions of all courses offered at Valley College. You can purchase the catalog in the bookstore for a small fee or
access it online on our website.
WHEN SHOULD I MEET WITH A COUNSELOR? It is recommended that you meet with a counselor each semester to update your progress and Student Educational Plan.
WHAT IS A STUDENT EDUCATIONAL PLAN? An academic plan to identify the courses necessary for you to accomplish your educational goals.
HOW MANY UNITS DO I NEED TO COMPLETE MY ASSOCIATES DEGREE? You will need 60 degree applicable units to obtain and Associates of Arts or Associates of Science degree.
HOW MANY UNITS ARE CONSIDERED FULL-TIME? A full-time student is enrolled in 12 units or more during the fall and spring semesters and 6 units or more during the summer session.
WHAT IS A PRE-REQUISITE? A course or skill that must be met before a course is taken. Pre-requisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher.
WHAT IS A CO-REQUISITE? A course that must be taken during the same semester as another course in which the student would like to enroll.
HOW DO I DROP A CLASS? You can drop classes online, by phone, or in Admissions & Records. It is the student's responsibility to officially drop a class that he/she does not plan to attend. Simply not attending a class does not automatically drop you from a course.
HOW DO I ADD A CLASS? If a class has began and there are still spaces available, you may go to the first class meeting and ask for permission from the instructor to add the course.
HOW MANY UNITS CAN I TAKE DURING THE SUMMER? You can register for a maximum of 8 units during the summer.
WHAT IS ACADEMIC PROBATION? A student will be placed on academic probation when his/her cumulative grade point average in 12 or more units falls below 2.00.
WHAT IS PROGRESS PROBATION? A student will be placed on progress probation when he/she has completed at least 12 units and has received a W, I, and/or NC in 50 percent or more of these units.
HOW MANY UNITS DO I NEED TO TRANSFER TO A UC OR CSU? You will need 60 transferable units to transfer to a UC or CSU. To determine lower division transfer courses required for your major visit
www.assist.org. WHAT DOES CSU MEAN? California State University. There are 23 CSU campuses. CSU, San Bernardino is the nearest campus. You can obtain your bachelors degree at the CSU.
WHAT DOES UC MEAN? University of California. There are 10 UC campuses. UC Riverside is the nearest campus. You can obtain your bachelors degree at the UC.
WHAT IS CSU BREADTH? A common pattern of general education courses taken prior to transfer to a CSU.
WHAT IS IGETC? A common pattern of general education courses taken prior to transfer to a UC and/or CSU and some Private Institutions.
