Jack
H. Brown is the President and chief executive officer of Stater Bros. Markets,
one of the nation's largest supermarket chains. He was born and educated
in San Bernardino, attending Washington and Lytle Creek elementary schools,
Richardson Junior High, and graduating from San Bernardino High (1956).
Brown was a business administration major at Valley College (1956-57, 1958-59)
and founding President of the lettermen's fraternity, Beta Tau Omega. He
continued his studies at San Jose State University and UCLA and served in
the United States Navy. Brown has committed his energy and managerial skills
to public service and philanthropy. He was the founding chairman of the
First Fund of Children's Resources of San Bernardino County, an agency devoted
to assisting abused and at-risk children. He has served on the boards of
the American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, and the YMCA, and has given
generously of his time and money to assist California State University at
San Bernardino.
Brown was named "Humanitarian of the Year" (1988) by the Southern California
Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews and was the first
recipient of CSU San Bernardino's Arrowhead Distinguished Chief Executive
Officer Lecture Award (1990). He was inducted into San Bernardino High's
"Athletic Wall of Fame (1991) and was the first Valley College alumnus to
receive the California Community Colleges Distinguished Alumni Award (1993).

Brown started his career in food marketing as a box boy at Berk's Market
Spot in San Bernardino. Prior to Stater Bros. Markets, he worked in management
positions at various supermarkets including Sage's Complete Markets in San
Bernardino and American Community Stores Corporation of Omaha, Nebraska.
