| High School / College Concurrent Enrollment Program |
The San Bernardino Community College District will
provide opportunities for students to enroll in courses at San Bernardino
Valley College or Crafton Hills College while they are enrolled
in high school. Approval from the high school principal and the
parents must be obtained prior to filing an application for admission.

| General Information |

|
The high school student who wants to have an advanced academic
or vocational experience should consider concurrent enrollment at
SBVC. Academic classes that are transferable to a four-year university
are available to 11th and 12th graders who meet the admission requirements,
and vocational training classes are available to 9th through 12th
grade students who meet the admission requirements.
Admission decisions are made based on the academic grade point
average, grades in prior classes, test scores, and other factors.
High school students who successfully complete courses at SBVC
and who wish to return must complete the application process for
each subsequent term. There is no guarantee that admission will
be granted for subsequent terms.

| Admission Criteria |

All students who are interested in concurrent enrollment must
be recommended by their high school principal (or designee).
11th and 12th grade students wishing to enroll in transferrable
academic classes (SBVC classes which are numbered 100 or higher,
and are transferrable to a four-year university) should have an
academic GPA of approximately 3.0, and have good grades in high
school courses which are similar to the ones they want to take at
Valley.
9th through 12th grade students wishing to enroll in vocational
classes (classes which prepare students for employment in a specific
trade or occupation) should have a 2.0 GPA, and have good grades
in classes which are similar to the ones they want to take at Valley.
San Bernardino Valley College has limited capacity for concurrently
enrolled high school students, and there is no guarantee that you
will be accepted, even if you meet the admission criteria. SBVC
also reserves the right to change or modify the admission standards
for concurrently enrolled high school students.

| Issues for Parents |

|
Just like you, we want your child's first experience with college
to be a successful one. And one of the most important factors will
be your support. Toward that end, it is helpful to be aware of some
of the differences between high school and college.
- Attendance will not be monitored
in the same way as high school. If your student
doesn't attend regularly, no one will call you.
- Courses are designed for adult students, and may contain
adult content.
- You will not have access to
your child's grades or records without their written consent.
- Instructors are not available
for parent conferences.
- Your student will be welcomed
at the Student Health Center where they will have access to
reproductive information, contraception, and other health services.
- College textbooks can be quite expensive. If you choose
to purchase them any place
beside the SBVC Bookstore, be sure you are purchasing the correct
edition of the correct
book.
- While SBVC has one of the best safety records of any college
in the Inland Empire,
your child will be a minor in an adult environment. They should
exercise caution at all
times.
- Your student will be responsible for all homework, papers
and assignments. If they
are having difficulty, they should speak with the instructor
before or after class, or
during the instructor's office hours.
